about

This song is about growing up in Vancouver in the 50’s and early 60’s, but it could be any city. The song is about the past, but it also refers to what living in the same place today is like. Harkens back to a time when most families were nuclear and homelessness was less common. But kids today are left on their own with keys to get in and people only seem to think about themselves. It compares gas prices and the lack of common sense, and rents so high, you can't even have a dog. Overall it is a positive song, as long as we look for blue skies to remind us of what we once had and but may have lost forever.

lyrics

(chorus)
I’m lookin for blue skies
I gotta have blue skies
I want those blue skies
That we all need
I’m lookin for blue skies
I want those blue skies
To set me free
In the old days, momma stayed at home
In the old days, you were never alone
In the old days, the smell of homemade bread
Meant, boy ya better get out of bed.
(chorus)
In the old days, daddy was a welder
He was working till that bridge fell in
In the old days, gas was fifty cents
And most folks had some common sense

(chorus)

In the old days, everybody had a house
And that house became a home
Yeah, in the old days, ya’all had a home
And every dog had its bone.

(chorus 2x )
